Creating a record of sorts hitherto unknown, Andhra Pradesh Civil Supplies Minister, Kodali Sri Venkateswara Rao a.k.a. Kodali Nani demanded the Chief Minister to declare (in a way) the entire population of Amaravati as persona non grata which means “an unwelcome person.”
Several residents in the Amaravati region expressed dismay over Nani’s comments asking the CM to “remove the legislative capital from Amaravati.” The minister is under the impression that winning with a majority can make any wrong right.
Giving reasons for making such a strange demand, the Gudivada MLA explained that he was of the view that the people of Amaravati do not have the heart to allow distribution of house sites to the poor. If the goings-on are any indication, the minister has been making this demand for the last several days.
He reportedly told the Chief Minister that it is an outrageous act on the part of people from Amaravati to go to court and get a stay order on the State government’s proposal to distribute house sites to 55,000 poor people. Giving a patient hearing to Nani, CM Jagan has assured him that a decision will be taken after discussing it with other leaders in the party.
Now, questions are being raised if Nani’s impudent remarks against tens and thousands of farmers fighting for their rights are the views of the minister or that of the government?
CPI State secretary Ramakrishna came down heavily on Nani for these remarks. “Nani has spoken the mind of CM Jagan who is against the entire population of Amaravati,” he alleged. Ramakrishna also lashed out at the government for devising new plans to make sure the lands given for the construction of capital go waste.
