News is in that Bollywood is getting ready to make a movie on ‘male pregnancy’ in which the central character who is a man becomes pregnant.
Apparently inspired by a couple of real-life incidents, the movie will be filled with comic situations arising out male pregnancy. It is to be noted that a few other Hollywood flicks like Junior, Paternity Leave and Mr Pregnant had already dealt with the topic but failed to leave an impression on the audience. Malayalam film Garbha Srimaan bombed at the box office and could not be salvaged by a decent performance from National award winner and comedian Suraj Venjaramud.
Birdie says Shaad Ali, the director of Soorma based on hockey player Sandeep Singh’s life, would direct this film. Diljit Dosanjh who essayed the lead role in the movie, might play the protagonist in this film. The title of the movie and the remaining star cast are yet to be finalized.
Certain portions of ‘Jambalakidi Pamba,’ a 1992 Telugu comedy film directed by late EVV Satyanarayana, dealt with this topic and had the audience in splits.
Earlier, movies on topics like sperm donation and late pregnancy registered success at the box office. It remains to be seen if this idea clicks and a spate of similar films follow.
