The outbreak of Coronavirus has proved to be a curse for movie producers who have films in various stages of production. Producers of films that have completed post-production are suffering the most because of the predicament surrounding their release in theaters or OTT. Actors are unwilling to come out of the safety of their homes to promote their movies. Glamour queen Anushka Shetty is one of them. Even though producers are considering releasing her latest thriller Nishabdham on OTT, she has been seen avoiding promotions.
Nishabdham is directed by Hemant Madhukar and features Anushka Shetty in the lead role alongside Madhavan, Anjali, Michael Madsen, Subbaraju, Shalini Pandey and Srinivas Avasarala in supporting roles. The movie was supposed to have released on April 2 in theatres if not for Covid19. A birdie says the delay is causing a huge financial burden on the producers including Kona Venkat who has borrowed money from various sources.
Because of the star-filled cast, news is that Amazon Prime is in talks with the producer since three months to buy the digital rights for a huge sum and release directly on OTT. Even though the producers were hesitant about releasing the movie on OTT, the overwhelming response they received in an online poll in favour of digital release convinced them.
Industry sources have revealed that the producers have inked the deal with Amazon already at a whopping Rs. 25 crores for digital rights. It is learnt that Anushka Shetty is unhappy about the recent developments since she wanted a direct theatre release. TFI circles are abuzz with the news that Anushka has clearly informed the producers that she will not participate in the promotions activity since the movie is getting a digital release.
