The former CBI in-charge Director, IPS officer Mannem Nageshwar has made sensational comments that the Jagan government has encroached 24,846 temples in the State. He tweeted that the government was not touching mosques and temples. He demanded the government to release the temples and wanted it to bring laws for preserving spiritual places like Gurudwaras. Asking the government to release the temples immediately, he said he would give a presentation if the CM desires. The YSRCP leaders were startled but the BJP MP Subramanyam Swamy asked him to question the same thing to the Uttarakhand government. He also asked why the former cop did not question the Chandrababu Naidu government in AP.
Reacting on this, the former director said that when he was trying to get the temples released from the clutches of the government, posing questions like this was not fair. He recalled that he had retired from the services during July last year. Nageshwar Rao is making comments on the anti-Hindu activities in the country. He wrote an open letter to the people of Tamil Nadu. He tweeted that they would have respect only if those who give priority to the Hindu religion were elected. The tweets of Rao are going viral because he hails from the Telugu States.
Nageshwar Rao is from Prakasam district. He belongs to Mandapeta in Warangal district. He is a 1986 batch IPS officer and he has served in different states. He served as director-general in fire services, civil security, home guards. He retired in July last year. He was made in-charge director of CBI in wake of the controversy surrounding the then director Rakesh Asthana. He has done MSc in chemistry from Osmania University and research in Madras IIT.
It is common for the retired IPS officer to criticize or make comments on different issues. However, there is a debate going on his tweets as he had faced several allegations during the investigation of several cases. During the year 2007 a Hindu priest, Swami Lakshmananda Saraswati was killed by few people at the age of 83. That incident had created a storm and the tribals were angry. Shoot At sight orders were issued on the incident. Though it was said that the attack was by Naxals, it was said that Christian Missionaries were behind the attack. Two persons were killed in that shoot at sight orders. Nageshwara Rao had worked as DIG in the area at that time. He had recently made comments regarding the case by stating that they are defaming the name of the country by holding ‘Atrocity Literature’. He said that some were creating disturbances by killing a spiritual person and later complaining that there was no security. He had played a key role in the encounter of Kishanji (N Koteshwar Rao) in 2011.
Nageswara Rao has been questioning the Attacks on Hindu religion and also on policies against the Hindu religion. Recently, CPM leader Brinda Karat filed a case against his comments. It may be mentioned here that earlier in Muzaffarabad in Bihar, there was a CBI inquiry on the hostels of a section. He had to face a penalty as he transferred the investigation officer even after the Supreme Court clearly asked not to change the official without their notice. He made another tweet demanding stopping of cow slaughter.
Going by his tweets, he is targeting the forces which are following policies against Hindu religion and taking up conversions. It has to be seen how he would respond to such incidents if they happen in the Telugu States.
