In what could be termed controversial, a wrong ritual was performed in the famed Arasavalli Sun Temple dedicated to Lord Surya in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district. It has come to light lately, that the husband of an official who works in the temple’s governing body and a former revenue officer had performed ritual related to last rites in the ‘Indrapushkarini’ tank pond. The devotees are angry over the violation of the temple rules. Especially, due to Coronavirus scare, Collector Nivas had ordered the closure of ‘Indrapushkarini’ and as a result, the devotees are not allowed to take a dip in the holy pond. To stop devotees from visiting the pond, barricades built of iron have been setup. The utter disregard for temple rules by the former revenue officer who performed rituals in the ‘Indrapushkarini’ has been strongly condemned by the devotees. They allege that the act has bought dishonour to the temple tradition.
Despite having been warned
It has been informed that when two staff members tried stopping the former revenue officer against performing the ritual, they didn’t bother and instead attacked the staff. Arasavalli Suryanarayana Swamy Temple EO Hari Surya Prakash said that the issue came to his notice and that an investigation will be ordered into the incident.
