All the big heroes in Tollywood donned lawyer characters at some point or the other in their careers. Chiranjeevi’s ‘Abhilasha’, Balakrishna’s ‘Dharmakshetram’, Venky’s ‘Dharmachakram’ and Nagarjuna’s ‘Adhipathi’ have portrayed them in powerful lawyer’s roles. The next generation ignored lawyer characters for unknown reasons and after a long time, Pawan Kalyan got an opportunity to play lawyer in ‘Vakeel Saab’.
‘Vakeel Saab’ is the remake of the Bollywood film ‘Pink’ which tasted huge success. It was earlier remade into Tamil by Ajith as ‘Nerkonda Parvai’ and stood as an industry hit. The Tamil version was made with many changes to suit to their nativity and Telugu version’s director Venu Sriram is said to be following in the same footsteps. Vakeel Saab’ first look poster garnered unprecedented hype and fans went crazy about it. After ‘Kaatamarayudu’ Pawan took a three-year break due to his political endeavours, so ‘Vakeel Saab’ which marks the start of his second innings is believed to rewrite the box office records once again.
Chiranjeevi’s ‘Abhilasha’ which revolves around the concept of abolishing death penalty became a super hit in 80s and his performance as a lawyer in that movie is unforgettable. Abhilasha was directed by Kodandarami Reddy while the story was penned by Yandamuri Veerendranath. ‘Vakeel Saab’ deals with the contemporary point of “One should not touch a girl without her consent”. This is perfectly apt for today’s times as the number of such incidents has increased lately. Time will tell whether Pawan will excel in black coat as Chiranjeevi did or not.
