Dr. Mandadi Prabhakar Reddy is not only an actor, writer and a producer but also a great man with a golden heart. He is the man behind Chitrapuri which houses thousands of workers in Tollywood. Today is his birth anniversary and it is sad that nothing is being done in his remembrance even in the Chitrapuri colony.
Mandadi Prabhakar Reddy was born in Thungathurthi in Nalgonda district in 1935. He studied and practised medicine before entering into films in 1961 with Chivaraku Migiledi. He is known for portraying villainy and even produced several films under his own banner named ‘Jayaprada Films’.
Dr. Prabhakar Reddy became successful in making the then Chief Minister Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy allocate 67 acres of land for housing of workers. He even donated his own land of ten acres near Gachibowli to this cause. The land he donated would cost Rs.500 crores now if adjusted to inflation. In his honour, Chitrapuri colony was named after him. He died at the age of 62 in 1997.
