Election to be held in this manner
In the elections to be held for choosing the GHMC Mayor and Deputy Mayor, ex-officio members too will be in attendance. It is understood that the mayor will be selected based on the hand count as this election will be held under the Municipal Act 2005, as stated by the Election Commission. In this context, the parties may issue a whip, and the votes of those who defect will also be taken into consideration. According to analysts the issue of disqualification does not apply in mayoral elections. However, the State Election Commission has mandated the attendance and quorum of at least half the members for the Plenary Session. With this, it is understood that the magic figure is not necessary for electing the Mayor.
