A Joint Action Committee has been formed on Thursday by the Vizag Steel Employees Union to protest against the Centre’s decision to privatise the Steel Plant. They made it clear that they would fight to protect the steel making firm by sacrificing their lives if needed. In October 2019, the Union Minister for Steel after having inked an MoU with POCSO company, while visiting Vizag Steel Plant assured the employees and union leaders saying that no joint venture will be made. The Employee Unions in this context recollected that still 9000 persons hailing from farmer families who gave their lands for the Steel Plant are yet to be provided jobs.
Will protect at any cost
Employee Unions of Vizag Steel Plant have clearly stated that 32 people sacrificed their lives for the company and they will not let it go in vain, instead, they are ready to give their lives to stop the privatisation. The Unions criticized the Government’s decision saying that privatisation virus is more deadly than the Coronavirus. They warned that they will not let the families of 20,000 VSP employees and of 20,000 people who passively depend for their livelihood to be thrown on the roads. They even demanded the Centre to allocate iron ore mines to Vizag Steel Plant.
