‘Sisindri’ marked the debut of Akhil Akkineni even before he turned one year. His performance as a mischievous infant stole the hearts of Telugu audiences in this remake of ‘Baby’s Day Out’. It was released exactly 25 years ago on this day and went on to become a super hit. Akhil turned into a handsome young hero now and ‘Sisindri’ stands as his only hit movie till date.
‘King’ Nagarjuna produced this film on his ‘Great India Entertainments’ banner, under the direction of Siva Nageswara Rao. It was released on September 14th of 1994. ‘Baby’s Day Out’ was released in Hollywood a year before. Siva Nageswara Rao wanted to remake this film in Telugu and approached Nagarjuna who was bowled by the idea to star Akhil in the lead role. And ‘Sisindri’ happened. Earlier, Nagarjuna also debuted as a child actor in ‘Sudigundalu,’ but not in the lead role. So the record of playing a lead role at a young age still vests with Akhil. While Sharat Babu and Amani played the roles of Akhil’s parents, Sivaji Raja played the role of Sharat Babu’s brother who kidnaps the child.
Story
Sivaji Raja, brother of Sharath Babu, plans to kidnap Akhil due to the jealousy against his brother. He takes the help of Akkanna, Madanna and Jakkanna (Tanikella Bharani, Sudhakar and Giri Babu) in executing this plan. Rest of the story is how Akhil escapes from the villainous trio in a comic way. At the end, Nagarjuna rescues the child from the kidnappers and reunites him with his mother and father.
Comedy scenes stand as highlights in this movie. Raj’s music elevated the film to the next level. ‘Chinni tandri ninu chudaga’ song became a super hit number. Comedians like Brahmanandam and AVS did justice to their roles. ‘Sisindri’ will stand as a milestone in Akhil’s career. Film industry runs on sentiments, and that’s why Akhil roped in Amani from ‘Sisindri’ in his upcoming film. ‘Most Eligible Bachelor’ with ‘Bommarillu’ Bhaskar will feature Amani in his mother’s role. She is reprising Akhil’s mother role after 25 years. Let’s see whether this sentiment works for him or not.
