The Congress Party High Command is expected to announce the new TPCC Chief on Monday. Now, senior leader Jeevan Reddy’s name coming to the fore has drawn curtains on the ongoing campaign of Revanth Reddy being considered for the TPCC President post. It is known that several Congress party leaders objected to the earlier leaks which stated that the responsibilities would be handed over to Anumula Revanth Reddy. The issue became so big, that senior Congress leaders like V Hanumantha Rao, even threatened to call it quits if Revanth was made the TPCC Chief. Though speculations in the last minute were in favour of the Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha from Malkajgiri, the dissent by party seniors, led the high command to change its mind. Reportedly, Thatiparthi Jeevan Reddy has been chosen as the TPCC instead of Revanth Reddy.
Revanth Reddy to head Campaign Committee of Telangana?
This doesn’t mean Revanth Reddy has been sidelined by the Congress high command and instead plans are being chalked out to utilize the MP in a more efficient manner. It is learnt that the Congress Working Committee intends to appoint Revanth as the President of the Campaign Committee of Telangana. Also, Revanth informed about his willingness to take over the key responsibility. However, it is speculated that Revanth informed about his willingness to head the Campaign Committee, having understood that he might not be given the TPCC Chief post.
The Congress high command completed its exercise on choosing the new TPCC Chief by taking into consideration the opinions of 162 party members. The news was that the Congress Working Committee was hunting for a potential candidate who could lead the party from the front and take everyone along. On December 27th, 2020, Manickam Tagore and KC Venugopal had summoned Jeevan Reddy to Delhi for talks. It has been learnt that Jeevan Reddy was informed to be ready to take over the responsibility of TPCC Chief being a senior leader.
The main reason for Revanth Reddy’s name being sidelined from the post of TPCC Chief is the dissent by senior party leaders, many of them even wrote letters to Rahul and Sonia Gandhi requesting them not to pick the Malkajgiri LS MP. However, now Revanth has expressed his willingness to heed the directions of the high command saying that he was ready to take the post of Campaign Committee chief. On the other hand, the Congress executive committee fearing a revolt by seniors over choosing Revanth decided to go ahead with Jeevan Reddy.
