Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) supremo Ram Vilas Paswan, breathed his last at the age of 74 on Thursday. He had recently undergone a heart surgery at a Delhi hospital. He was one of the most noted Dalit leaders of the country and had played an active role in Indian politics for more than fifty years.
Chirag Paswan, son of Ram Vilas Paswan shared the news of his father’s death on Twitter. “Papa …. Now you are not in this world but I know you are always with me wherever you are. Miss you Papa…,” along with a throwback photo of his father hugging him.
CM KCR expresses shock
Telangana CM KCR expressed shock over the death of Ram Vilas Paswan and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members. KCR recalled that the LJP founder stood by the people of Telangana during the separate statehood agitation and cherished him as a social reformer and political leader in Indian history.
Renowned Dalit leader no more
Ram Vilas Paswan who was born in Khagaria in 1946 made his political debut through United Socialist Party, having quit his job as a police official. He became a leading Dalit face after being elected as an MLA in 1969 and rose through party ranks. Paswan was elected to the Lok Sabha eight times and was currently a Rajya Sabha member. The Lok Jan Shakti Party founded by him played a significant role in consolidating Dalits in North India.
