Providing solace to the victims in need of justice and taking stringent steps to create fear among criminals is the need of the hour. Is this instinct which was seen in YS Rajasekhara Reddy lacking in AP Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy? This has now become a topic of discussion.
YSR, KCR took daring decisions
YS Rajasekhara Reddy used to be very serious against spine chilling crimes and directed officials to take the harshest action against those found guilty. He was known for backing police officials in taking strong decisions, going beyond the line to curb crimes that send wrong signals to the society. People still remember the prompt response by the government in the Warangal acid attack case.
Recently, the KCR government didn’t utter a single word in the Disha case, but offered all the support needed to the police to deal with the case in a professional manner. It may seem wrong in some cases, but in reality, it is the right way to provide swift justice to the victims. There may be many leaders who may be dominant but only a few win a place in the hearts of people. Jagan’s father YSR was one of them.
Rise in crime against women in AP
The state of AP recently witnessed atrocious crimes. A 25-year-old nurse on Covid duty while returning home was doused in petrol and set on fire by her ex-boyfriend in Vijayawada. Now, another love maniac attacked an engineering student in Vijayawada by slitting her throat using a knife. Her only mistake was to reject his love. She was critically injured and died while undergoing treatment. Though, CM Jagan’s government proudly states that it has introduced the Disha Act, the big question is how will the Jagan government deal with the rise of such incidents in the state.
Police have even failed to register a case of sexual assault on a woman by an evangelist, forcing the victim to lodge a complaint via Spandana. Irrespective of politics, there is a need to send a strong message that the government will stand by the victims and will never keep quiet if such atrocious crimes happen.
