PM Modi began the Mann Ki Baat radio programme to reach out to every Indian in the country. He speaks on every important issue that has been reported from every nook and corner of the nation and makes sure that every aspect is covered in his speech. In this context, PM Modi in his Sunday radio address lauded the efforts of Hyderabad’s Bowenpally Vegetable Market. He spoke about the innovative method of electricity being generated from vegetable wastes.
In PM Modi’s speech
Speaking about the Hyderabad vegetable market, the PM praised the efforts taken to generate power from vegetable wastes. He added that the responsible initiative by the market gave him immense satisfaction. PM Modi said that due to several reasons vegetables in the market often lie rotten and unused. At times, such vegetables are also transported to other areas which result in the spread of uncleanliness. Now, the market took up the initiative to convert waste into electricity as it did not want to throw away the vegetables in vain. This innovative process has now inspired everyone.

A wonderful innovative approach
On a daily basis, around 10 tonnes of vegetable waste is produced which is taken to a processing plant. On a daily basis, 500 units of electricity are produced in the plant, apart from 30-Kgs of biofuel. Now the electricity produced in this manner is used to power the complete market while the biofuel is used for cooking in the market canteen. Isn’t this innovative and wonderful?
