Kollywood young gun Simbu is known for his controversies, more than films. Simbu’s father T Rajendar is a well-known director who made many super hits in 80s. He debuted as a child actor and went on to amass huge following in Tamil Nadu due to his acting and dancing skills. Most of his films became blockbusters owing to his over the top mannerisms. Simbu has a nose for controversies and this made his career fade away lately.
Simbu doesn’t have a hit film for almost a decade now. His last outing ‘Vantha Rajavathaan Varuven’ with C Sundar failed miserably at the box office. It is the remake of Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Attarintiki Daaredi’. He is currently acting in Venkat Prabhu’s ‘Maanaadu’. It’s shooting got stalled due to lockdown. Rumour is that Simbu is starring in a rare combination with a senior hero now. Let us delve into the details.
‘Sigappu Rojakkal’ was a cult classic that was released in 80s under the direction of Bharathi Raja. Kamal Hassan starred as a psycho killer in it who kills women and buries them in his backyard while Sridevi played the female lead. It was dubbed into Telugu as ‘Yerra Gulabilu’. Simbu also made a film on similar lines called ‘Manmadhan’ in 2004 which was dubbed into Telugu as ‘Manmadha’.
Bharathi Raja’s son Manoj Bharathi Raja debuted as an actor with ‘Taj Mahal’ in 1999 in Tamil films. He is now gearing up for his debut as a director. He is making a sequel for his father’s ‘Sigappu Rojakkal’ and is said to have met Kamal and Simbu to play the lead roles. Kamal’s character is said to a continuation of his role in the original movie and details about Simbu’s role are yet to be revealed. Manoj assisted his father and director Shankar previously. Let’s see whether the combination of successors of two directors along with Kamal Hassan hits the bull’s eye or not.
