Nireekshana is a 1982 Tollywood film which garnered classic status due to its realistic portrayal of love. Renowned cinematographer Balu Mahendra directed it while Bhanu Chander and Archana played the leading roles. Nireekshana marked the Telugu debut of black beauty Archana who went on to star in films like Ladies Tailor, Daasi, and Matti Manushulu later.
Archana also acted in Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi films in her career. She recently participated in a TV show named Alitho Saradaga in ETV hosted by comedian Ali and shared her memories. Talking to Ali, Archana said ‘My real name is Sudha and I met Balu Mahendra while studying in the Film Institute. He changed my name to Archana in Nireekshana’.
‘People who took my photos in the starting said that I am not fit for films. Balu Mahendra encouraged and gave me ample chances to prove my talent and that’s why I consider him my Guru. I acted in many films with Bhanu Chander and we used to quarrel a lot on the sets. I never felt bad about my dark complexion and in fact, I am proud of it. I accepted a film from a big production house after 25 years and its shooting will start shortly’, concluded Archana.
