After Soundarya and Ramya Krishnan, Nayanthara is the only actress in the present generation who is suitable for Goddess roles. She proved her mettle by playing the role of Sita in Balakrishna’s Sri Rama Rajyam way back in 2011. After all these years, she played another such role in Ammoru Thalli which was released on Disney+ Hotstar today. Let’s check its review.
Plot
Ramaswamy(RJ Balaji) is a reporter who works for a local channel in Kasibugga village. He is the sole earner in his family consisting of a mother, grandfather, and three sisters. A fake godman named Bhagavati Baba(Ajay Ghosh) lives in the same village who has 11,000 acres in his captivity.
Ramaswamy goes to Mukkupudaka Ammavaru temple along with his family members in the forest. To his surprise, the deity (Nayanthara) appears before him and bestows a boon upon him. But she asks him to make her temple famous in return for her boon. The rest of the story revolves around Ramaswamy’s efforts to return the favor and the real intention of the Goddess in asking it.
Analysis
Nayanthara is the major highlight of Ammoru Thalli. She is apt for the character though there is not enough scope for performance. Her Goddess role goes in a lighter vein. RJ Balaji pulled off his role with ease and went overboard in some scenes in an attempt to prove that he is a natural actor.
Senior actress Urvashi got a meaty role and her comic timing is commendable. Ajay Ghosh as the villain is strictly ok and his dubbing is a big minus. Since the film is a socio-fantasy, the directors’ deliberate attempt to infuse humor forcefully is clearly evident.
Ammoru Thalli reminds us of Aamir Khan’s PK as the plot revolves around exposing the shady activities of fake godmen. Finally, it’s just a one-time watch as nothing is new about the film except publicity!
