The entire world is looking at vaccines in the present circumstances. Big companies are experimenting to bring vaccines. Apart from the Covishield brought with joint collaboration of British-Swedish Pharma giant AstraZeneca, Oxford University, the Covaxin developed by Bharat Biotech has been given approval for emergency use. At a time when all were thinking that Covid can be controlled, few are making meaningless criticisms. Few political leaders are comparing the Covaxin of Bharat Biotech with water. With this, the Indian political mindset has become a topic of discussion in the world.
The vaccine companies strive for inventing the vaccine but strive more to protect their formula. In recent times, hackers have attacked the servers of the pharma companies and this was to steal the information. The company has to preserve the formula and also the goodwill of the company. The opponent companies try to find loopholes because if the formula is good, the entire world would look for the medicine from that company.
It is being criticised that instead of countering the allegations made by foreign countries, the Indian political leaders are targeting the Indian company. There are doubts about the level of maturity among Indian politicians. Bharat Biotech chairman Krishna Ella gave an explanation in detail about the vicious doubts expressed by the political parties in India. He said that some were deliberately indulging in mudslinging and that it isn’t good. Stating that the company has no relation with any political party, he said that this victory belonged to scientists and volunteers. It has been once again proving that India can also bring vaccines for the world.
Apart from the UK, clinical trials were conducted in about 12 countries including Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, he said. He further said that their company has global leadership, which provides vaccines to different companies in 123 countries. Stating that Covaxin is a safe inactivated vaccine, he said that the company got approval from the National Institute of Virology and if there are any doubts, the data of the company can be seen. He said Covaxin would work effectively on the UK strain also.
I come from a family of farmers. My father is a farmer… science is my life. My family had no experience of business even then the company is popular in the world. We don’t have a habit of copying…India is a country of creativity. Our vaccine is by no means cheap compared to international vaccines. We are proud to say that Bharat Biotech is the only company to have published five research papers on this vaccine. Why are trials not criticized in other countries like this?
Leading researchers Dr Gagandeep Kang and Shahid Jamil commented on how the government can approve the Bharat Biotech vaccine even though the results of the third phase trials were not fully available. He said that except Pfizer, Moderna and Covishield all other vaccines were just water. Bharat Biotech chairman had to address a press conference in wake of criticism by political parties.
