The Election Commission announced the BJP led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) as the victor at 3 AM on Wednesday, providing much relief for CM Nitish Kumar who will lead the state for the fourth consecutive term. While, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) won an impressive 75 seats under the leadership of Lalu’s youngest son Tejashwi Yadav, to become the single largest party. Of the 243 Assembly seats, the NDA won 74 seats and the Janata Dal (United) won 43 seats thereby surpassing the magic figure of 122. On the other hand, Congress managed to win just 19 seats having contested from 70 seats and Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) won just a single seat. Political experts have pinned the Grand Alliance’s failure on the Congress.
