This is really good news for all YSRCP followers. The AP Government which has been facing a backlash from the AP High Court and Supreme Court has got a much-needed reprieve. The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued key orders pertaining to the Amravati land scam case. The Apex Court stayed the gag order which was earlier passed by the High Court of Andhra Pradesh. It is known that a bench led by Chief Judge JK Maheshwari had issued orders directing media not to report against the alleged irregularities reported by a Special Investigation Team in the Amaravati land purchases, which includes an FIR filed by the ACB against a former legal officer Dammalapati Srinivas and others. The FIR also included daughters of a sitting Supreme Court judge.
In this regard, Judges Ashok Bhushan, MR Shah and Subhash Reddy of the Supreme Court hearing the appeals filed by the AP Government against the Andhra High Court’s September 15th directive said, “The Andhra Pradesh HC shall not decide till January end the matter related to alleged irregularities in land transaction in Amaravati.”
YS Jaganmohan Reddy post the 2019 Assembly polls, having taken charge as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh had set up a Special Investigation Team comprising of 10 officers to look into the alleged irregularities in the Amaravati lands acquisition. The SIT was led by IPS officer K Raghuram Reddy. The YSRCP Chief has alleged several irregularities in Amaravati projects from 2014 to 2019 during the TDP regime of then CM N Chandrababu Naidu.
As the Supreme Court hearing related to the case was held today, Dushyant Dave, a senior advocate arguing for the AP Government said that the decision to constitute a SIT was taken following a Cabinet Sub-Committee’s December 2019 report. The advocate even added that High Court’s cannot intervene in matters which are under investigation, as per Supreme Court.
