Among all the films that were released on OTT platforms, ‘C U Soon’ can be termed as a cool and different film, and surprisingly it was entirely shot on an iPhone. This Malayalam flick is India’s second computer screen film after ‘Lens’. It stars ‘Super Deluxe’ fame Fahadh Faasil and ‘Kappela’ fame Roshan Mathew, and directed by Mahesh Narayan. It was released on September 1st on Amazon Prime. Both critics and viewers praised this film for its feel-good content, different taking, realistic acting and technical supremacy.
Plot
This film is based on Tinder dating app. Jimmy Kurien (Roshan Matthew), a banker who works in UAE meets Anu Sebastian (Darshana Rajendran) on Tinder. Their friendship transforms into love after frequent chatting sessions on Google Hangouts and Skype. Meanwhile Jimmy shares the recent developments in his life to his cousin Kevin Thomas (Fahaad Faasil) who is a cyber security specialist.
Jimmy brings Anu to his flat as she asks him to help her in some issues. Dubai Police takes them both into custody as living together without marrying is against their law. But is there any other reason for arresting Anu? What problems did Jimmy face because of Anu? How did they get out from custody? How did Kevin save them? What is Anu’s past? And how did Kevin use the technology to learn about her past? These facts form the rest of the story.
Analysis
‘C U Soon’ portrayed the issue of women getting trapped into prostitution after cheating them in the name of Gulf jobs. It is a frequent social issue in Kerala and director Mahesh Narayan handled it very well. This film was shot in computer screen mode as it displays the chatting messages between the actors on computer and mobile screens throughout. It cashes in on the suspense factor surrounding the facts that lead to the arrest of the two characters. Mahesh Narayan did an extraordinary job in showcasing a burning issue in a heart touching manner.
Performances
Fahaad Faasil and Roshan Matthew are masters when it comes to playing realistic characters and they proved it once again in ‘C U Soon’. Darshana Rajendran is apt as ‘Anu Sebastian’ as she underplayed her character to perfection with the right emotions. Gopi Sundar’s music elevates the mood of the film to the next level.
