The former AP CM Nara Chandrababu Naidu who has a political experience spanning forty years, for the first time in his career had to protest by sitting in front of the Speaker’s podium in the Legislative Assembly on Monday. In the wake of Cyclone Nivar having caused massive crop damage to farmers, the AP Government failed to pay crop insurance premiums. In this scenario, the TDP supremo took to protest demanding the YS Jagan government to disburse compensation immediately to help farmers who incurred heavy crop damage.
TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu highlighted the fact that the government had cheated farmers by not paying crop insurance premiums. This led the YSRCP government to wake from its slumber and issue orders last night releasing Rs 590 crore under crop insurance premium. On the other hand, the Telugu Desam Party in its press conference held on Monday had released the inputs obtained via RTI. No claims were made in 2019 and still, the compensation is being calculated, the Department of Agriculture had informed in its RTI application. In addition, the TDP Chief also released to the media the figures obtained by RTI regarding crop insurance claims from 2014 to 2019.
“For the first time in my long career, I faced suspension. I faced this for the sake of the farmers who were suffering greatly on account of severe crop losses. Crop losses were there in over 20 lakhs to 25 lakh acres in the past one-and-a-half years. The Chief Minister is not taking any steps to mitigate their problems,” Chandrababu Naidu said, adding that by not clearing the loan waiver dues, the government has cheated farmers.
