One of the influential seers in Telugu states Chinna Jeeyar Swamy took a dig at Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy over attacks on temples. Though he did not mention Jagan’s name directly, the comments are seen as directed at the AP Chief Minister. He made some strong remarks regarding the developments at Tirumala and desecration of temples in the state. He said attacks on temples, whoever carried them out, are condemnable and the government should take them very seriously. “Everyone, including people, officials, governments and those in posts should be concerned over such attacks. No one should support them,” he said.
The seer called upon the governments to deal with such incidents with an iron hand. “Those who attack temples should be punished severely. The governments should take stringent steps to prevent recurrence of such despicable incidents,” Chinna Jeeyar said. He said the loss and damage caused to temples and religious places should be considered as a loss inflicted on society and the people.
Anyone can have a darshan, but…
Chinna Jeeyar said anyone can have darshan of any deity in the country, but they should not violate the norms. He was reacting to controversy over signing of declaration by non-Hindus before having a darshan of Lort Balaji. “Everyone has right to have a darshan of deity. No one can stop them. But they have to follow the norms set by the temples concerned,” he said. These comments are seen as aimed at AP Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy. In another important observation, the seer said it amounts to blasphemy to be ostentatious in the presence of the God, however rich and powerful persons they maybe.
Ayodhya acquittal long overdue
Reacting to a court dismissing Babri Mosque demolition case, Chinna Jeeyar said it should have been done long ago. “There is no substance in the case. It should have been thrown out long ago. It has been very much delayed,” he said.
