The BAR Council of India, on Thursday, unanimously condemned AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s ill-founded letter to the CJI as an act of casting aspersions against judges of the Supreme Court and AP High Court in a bid to cause interference. The allegations made against judge NV Ramana has also left the statutory body shocked.
“The Council has always stood to protect the dignity and decorum of the Institution. The lawyers of the country have always stood behind the judges whenever any attempt to scandalize the Institution has been made, and the legal fraternity of the country will never tolerate any such evil design of anybody to malign the system,” BCI Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra said, adding that the reprehensible move actually tarnished the AP CM’s own image.
CM Jagan living in his own illusions: Former AP High Court Judge
Noushad Ali, a former AP High Court judge in a letter to the CJI criticised the AP CM’s letter and expressed displeasure over the issue. The judge also reminded that the AP CM is an accused in as many as thirty-one cases, of which eleven are being investigated by the CBI and seven are being probed by the ED. Citing it as CM YS Jagan’s personal agenda, the retired judge said it was shocking to see a person in the stature of Chief Minister writing to the CJI.
Will not tolerate such actions: BAR Council
The BAR council hailed judge NV Ramana as one of the most virtuous persons, and strongly condemned the allegations of political bias and corruption made against the latter. A decision has also been taken to initiate serious action against those who would criticise the judiciary. On the other hand, the Delhi Bar Association made it clear that judge NV Ramana has been targeted as he would be succeeding SA Bobde as the next Chief Justice of India.
