Telangana Congress is all set to corner the ruling TRS in the monsoon session of the State Assembly beginning on Monday, alleging gross mishandling and mismanagement of COVID-19 in the State.
The Congress Legislature Party (CLP), the main opposition in the State Assembly trained its guns against Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao and his government accusing it of being thick-skinned and not bothered when the reports indicating that the COVID-19 mortality rates are growing in Telangana. TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy lashed out at the TRS government stating that his party would effectively expose the mishandling of COVID-19 by the government. He added that the spread of seasonal diseases is piling up the agony for people who are already burdened by the onslaught of the deadly Coronavirus.
The BJP which has a lone MLA, Raja Singh, is also expected to join the chorus to corner the government in the State Assembly. In the Legislative Council, the BJP and Congress have chalked out their plans, to mount pressure against the government on key issues like mismanagement of COVID, payment of salaries to the teachers in the private educational institutions, the recently announced Land Regularisation Scheme (LRS) and other issues.
Meanwhile, the ruling TRS is preparing its armour to face the opposition parties in both the houses. The Ministers have been asked to be prepared for the grilling and to effectively counter the opposition.
The Business Advisory Committee will Monday afternoon to finalise the agenda and the number of days for the current monsoon session. Meanwhile, strict COVID-19 protocols would be implemented and entry to both the houses during the current session will be restricted only for those found to be COVID negative. Assembly Speaker, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and Council Chairman, Gutta Sukender Reddy have inspected the arrangements for the monsoon session. The presiding officers said that ministers, MLAs, MLCs and staff of both the houses and journalists have been asked to undergo COVID tests.
A COVID testing centre has also been set up for the last three days in the Assembly premises for conducting tests. It is likely to continue functioning until the end of monsoon session.
