Following a high-level meeting with top officials which was chaired by PM Narendra Modi on Saturday, it has been decided to hold the mass vaccination pan India from January 16th. Preliminary the vaccine shot would be given to frontline warriors (doctors, police and community health workers and police), followed by the elderly above 50 and later those below 50 with co-morbid conditions. It is estimated that 30 crore people would be vaccinated in the first phase and that CoWIN (Covid Vaccine Intelligence Work) application would be used to manage the mass inoculation drive.
PM Modi is also expected to speak with the Chief Ministers of all states regarding the arrangements for the vaccination to be carried out in an organized manner such that all citizens can be protected from the deadly infection. It is known that the Centre has allowed emergency use of the indigenously developed Covaxin (Bharat Biotech) and Covishield (AstraZeneca and Oxford University).
On 16th January, India takes a landmark step forward in fighting COVID-19. Starting that day, India’s nation-wide vaccination drive begins. Priority will be given to our brave doctors, healthcare workers, frontline workers including Safai Karamcharis. https://t.co/P5Arw64wVt
