The GVMC officials have run a demolition drive at the GITAM campus in Visakhapatnam, razing down structures and the compound wall of the University in the wee hours of Saturday. University officials say that no prior notice was issued and even questioned the hasty act of the GVMC in conducting the demolition. It is known that the GVMC had earlier demolished the compound wall of TDP leader Sabbam Hari.
Meanwhile, the TDP General Secretary Nara Lokesh lashed out at the YSRCP government for targeting the prestigious educational establishment for its political rivalry. “GITAM Hospital provided services during Corona despite many difficulties. The destruction of GITAM University, which has taught people for many years and many reached high positions after studying here. It’s a reflection of Jagan Reddy’s miserable condition. The demolition was carried out without giving any notice,” Lokesh said, adding that it is highly condemnable.
On the other hand, AP BJP General Secretary condemning the demolition said that the YS Jagan rule in the past 17 months has been only on the agenda of destruction in the state of AP.
The Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management, known as GITAM, was founded in 1980 by late Dr MVVS Murthi, a TDP leader and former Member of Parliament. The current chairman Bharat is the son-in-law of TDP MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna.
