Former minister and TDP MLA Atchannaidu was tested positive for corona virus on Thursday. Atchannaidu, who is in judicial remand in ESI scam case, is being treated at the local Ramesh Hospital in Guntur.
“The doctors have been conducting tests on him since yesterday morning as he was showing symptoms of corona virus. Meanwhile, the doctors decided to write a letter to the High Court over him being tested for corona virus and health conditions,” sources said.
As per protocol, hospital groups give bulletins to the High Court every week on minor health conditions while the doctors at Ramesh Hospital are currently providing corona virus treatment to Atchannaidu. The MLA’s family, fans, activists and followers are concerned over his health.
Two weeks ago, a single-judge bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, comprising Justice M. Venkata Ramana, reserved the order on Atchannaidu’s bail plea for July 29 after the conclusion of arguments in the ESI scam case on Monday.
Mr. Atchannaidu had earlier appealed to the court to let him out on bail on health grounds. He is accused of causing a loss to the State exchequer by awarding contracts for the procurement of medical supplies and services required by ESI hospitals, in a fraudulent manner to some companies when he was the Minister for Labour in the previous government. His family alleges that he is being framed as part of political vendetta unleashed by Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.
Atchannaidu had also complained to the court that he was forcibly discharged from the Government General Hospital in Guntur in spite of his frail health and without testing him for COVID. He was later admitted to Ramesh Hospitals in Guntur as per the court’s direction for better treatment, where he was tested positive now.
