Oil is extracted from marijuana leaves and transported from the tribal areas to cities. On a tip-off, the Visakhapatnam Airport Zone Police arrested a person selling this oil. This incident led the Vizag Police to focus on the issue. Sidingi Chandramohan, a person from Madugula, was transporting the oil using a two-wheeler. However, the man was arrested at the Marripalem petrol bunk on a tip-off by the airport zone police. The police seized two litres of marijuana oil from the vehicle’s dickey. It was packed in polythene covers.
There is a good demand for oil which is extracted from marijuana. Police initially found that some drug addicts enjoyed this as it was several times more intoxicating and gave a different kick than regular marijuana. According to an estimate by the police department, a 10 ml pack costs Rs 2,000 in Hyderabad city.
Some people smoke marijuana directly, while others smoke it in the form of cigarettes. Some others inhale intoxicants. Police say that dipping a cigarette in this oil gives a great kick. Also, it would be difficult for the police to identify once the cigarette is dipped. Police say that people who are addicted to marijuana enjoy high levels of intoxication.
Visakhapatnam police have found that college students were the primary target. Police were alerted as the oil could be easily transported using two-wheelers. A police investigation revealed that this was brought for sale in the bus complex and railway station areas.
Marijuana is usually packed in 1 kg to 10 kg packets from Visakhapatnam Rural and transported by autos, lorries, cabs and private buses. Cases have come to light in which the bottom of a gas cylinder was cut and filled with marijuana. There have been instances where lorries have been caught moving special racks. However, seizing the liquid cannabis oil remains a major challenge for the police.
