Madhavaneni Raghunandan Rao of the Bharatiya Janata Party has won the Dubbaka by-election with a vote margin of 1470 votes, to defeat the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi candidate Solipeta Sujata in the Dubbaka Assembly by-elections. Though the official result is to be declared by the Election Commission, after 23 rounds of counting, BJP’s Raghunandan Rao emerged the victor. The BJP won 62,772 votes, followed by TRS with 61,302 votes and the Congress’ Cheruku Srinivas Reddy having won 21,819 votes.
Earlier, in the 2018 assembly polls, TRS had secured 54.36% votes, with the Congress in the second place having secured 16.31% while BJP’s Raghunandan Rao then had secured third place with 13.75%.
The Dubbaka by-elections result clearly show the anti-incumbency factor amongst people against the ruling TRS and this sounds like a warning sign for the Pink Party. It also sets the mood for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Election which is looked at as a preparation for the 2023 assembly polls.
Following the news of Dubbaka victory, BJP state president Bandi Sanjay took part in the celebrations at the BJP office in Hyderabad.
