It may be mentioned here that the farmers have been agitating on the Farm Acts brought by the Centre. The comments of Prime Minister Modi in the all-party meeting have become important especially after the anarchy at Red Fort on the occasion of Republic Day and police personnel taking stringent measures. The comments of Modi that the government was ready to postpone the implementation of the Acts for 18 months have become crucial. He said that the decision of the farmers was final and threw the ball in their court.
Every time the all-party meeting is organized before the start of the session but this time the meeting was organized after the start. The meeting which was organized virtually had discussed mainly on the farmers’ issue as all the parties raised this demand in front of Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla. Replying to the demand for discussion, Modi said that the government was ready to discuss all the issues. He said that the government has the same stand which it had on January 22. He said if the Parliament functions smoothly all the issues can be discussed otherwise there will be no chance of debate.
Modi later had a meeting with the NDA alliance partners. The Biju Janata Dal raised the issue of women’s reservation and the TRS and YSRCP also supported it. While Keshava Rao raised the issue of promises in the AP Reorganization Act, the AP TDP and YSRCP leaders also raised the same. The Centre is likely to introduce 38 bills in this session. There will be a discussion on budget, converting four ordinances into Acts, withdrawing three Acts and five Finance Bills.
