A tweet by the United Nations Human Rights on the ongoing farmers’ protests against the contentious farm laws has assumed significance, as it said that the issues must be solved in a peaceful manner. “We call on the authorities and protesters to exercise maximum restraint in ongoing Farmers Protests. The rights to peaceful assembly & expression should be protected both offline & online. It’s crucial to find equitable solutions with due respect to Human Rights for all,” the United Nations Human Rights Council tweeted. While it has to be seen how the Indian Government would react to the tweet put out by the intergovernmental organization.

It is known that the January 26th ‘Tractor Rally’ led to huge violence, that led to the Centre beef up security and declare a high alert, thereby temporarily shut down the internet services. While there is a campaign going on that anti-social elements may have stirred the violence in the guise of farmers. Following this the tweets by international celebrities, Barbadian Pop singer Rihanna and Swedish teen activist Greta Thunberg led to massive outrage in India. Several Indian celebrities took to social media and criticized both the global icons for meddling in India’s internal affairs.
