Keshubhai Patel, a senior BJP leader and former CM of Gujarat who served from March 1995 to October 1995 and from March 1998 to October 2001, passed away aged 92 at a hospital in Ahmedabad on Thursday. His son Bharat informing about his father’s demise said that the latter tested positive for Covid on September 18th and had suffered prostate cancer.
“Keshubhai mentored and groomed many younger karyakartas including me. Everyone loved his affable nature. His demise is an irreparable loss. We are all grieving today. My thoughts are with his family and well-wishers. Spoke to his son Bharat and expressed condolences. Om Shanti,” PM Narendra Modi tweeted while expressing shock over the political stalwart’s death. PM Modi had succeeded Keshubhai Patel as the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
Keshubhai Patel had quit the BJP in 2012 and had founded the Gujarat Parivartan Party which performed poorly in the subsequent elections held that year, only to merge with the BJP in 2014.
