Rahul will lead the ‘Kisan-Mazdoor Bachao Divas’ protest from Sangrur, Punjab to express his solidarity with the farmers against the Anti-Farmers Bill which was passed by the Centre. Rahul is keen to take his protest to the next level by emulating his party colleague Renuka Chowdhury. The Congress Party which dubbed the Agricultural Bills as draconian, anti-poor and anti-farmer is leaving no stone unturned to voice its stand across the nation through dharnas and marches.
Earlier, Renuka Chowdhury grabbed the limelight after driving a tractor to the Parliament to protest a bill against farmers during that time. It is reliably learnt that Rahul will follow suit.
Congress looks to fortify its presence by capitalizing on the farmers’ agitation against the three farm bills which were passed in the Parliament last week and were notified as Acts following President Ram Nath Kovind’s assent. According to sources, the agitation is set to begin from Sangrur, Punjab, where the Congress government is in power and hence there would not be any restraint on their protests and concerns from the police. Sangrur is known as an agricultural centre in the state and it is learnt that Rahul Gandhi is keen to take up the issue from there.
The Gandhi scion will travel across Punjab to Haryana, and end his protest in Delhi which would be a phased tractor ride. It will be interesting to look at how Rahul lures farmers with his tractor driving skills.
Rahul Gandhi has cornered the Modi government, accusing it of being a ‘Suit-boot Sarkar.’ In this scenario, by riding a tractor and highlighting the plight of farmers, he aims to drive a point that only his party stands with the farmers.
