The Hyderabad GHMC Election has turned on the political heat, with both the ruling TRS and the Opposition throwing barbs at each other. On the other hand, the election campaign is in full swing amid allegations and counter-allegations. All top political parties have questioned the TRS and have sought a report on all development activities carried out. The first phase of the upcoming GHMC polls ended with the deadline for filing nominations. While on Sunday was the last day for the withdrawal of nominations, the respective parties tried their best to persuade the rebel candidates to pull back their nominations.
Following the withdrawal of nominations, among 151 divisions in Greater Hyderabad, there are around 1121 contestants in the fray. In toto, 1893 candidates from various political parties had filed over 2575 nominations. All details related to the number of nominations which were rejected, withdrawn and the number of candidates in the race were revealed late night on Sunday.
There are 150 divisions within GHMC limits, and all political parties such as the TRS, Congress, BJP and others have fielded their candidates from their respective divisions. From Old City, only MIM (Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen) is contesting. Similarly, the TDP, Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS), Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) to have fielded their candidates in divisions believed to be their stronghold. In addition, 500 candidates from smaller parties and independents are also contesting in the upcoming Greater Elections.
Now, many leaders from the ruling TRS who are out campaigning in public, experienced a bitter reaction from the locals. In Medchal–Malkajgiri district, TRS MLA Mynampally Hanumantha Rao was cornered over roads issue by the residents of Jawahar Nagar. The residents expressed their protest by holding placards which read ‘No Roads, No Votes’ and vented their ire over the poor road conditions in the area. The localites who gheraoed the MLA allowed him to leave after the latter assured action and made a sign on his official letter pad. Many other TRS leaders also had to experience such bitter reactions from the public while campaigning for the GHMC polls.
