The demise of legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam has shocked crores of his fans in every nook and corner of the nation. Balu lent his voice to almost every hero in the Indian film industry and he dubbed for some of them too. He had nearly sung 41,230 songs in 16 languages. SPB is known for singing even the complex of songs in ‘single-take’. Most of us don’t know that he hasn’t received any formal training in classical music.
SP Balu in an earlier interview to a TV channel said “I smoked for 20 years and sang for 10 hours daily when I was in my 40s. I dreamt of becoming an engineer but life made me a singer. I used to mimic the voices of NTR, ANR, Allu Ramalingiah and Raja Babu when I sang for them. My aim is to sing until I die and request God to grant me a swift death”. But his last wish was never granted as he fought with death for more than 40 days, bedridden in ‘MGM Healthcare’ hospital. Balu was continuously singing until he was diagnosed with COVID-19 infection.
His body was shifted to his Kodambakam residence where it is being kept for friends, well-wishers and members of general public to visit and pay their last respects. The funeral will be held on Saturday evening.
