We celebrate the victory of good over evil as Diwali. However, this year we are celebrating the festival of lights during a pandemic, which has claimed countless lives globally. However, we hope that this Diwali might drive away the deadly Coronavirus from our lives forever.
The victory of good over evil
There are many stories of Diwali being celebrated as the victory of good over evil. However, it is Lord Krishna and Satyabhama slaying the demon king Narakasura of Pragjyotishapura which is celebrated as Diwali. The day is also known as Narak Chaturdashi. According to the elders, since the people were freed from the clutches of the evil king, they lit lamps and diyas to mark the occasion, which is even followed to this day. The festival is celebrated on the fourteenth day of the second fortnight of Hindu Lunisolar month Kartika (between mid-October and mid-November) and usually lasts for five days.
