Dammalapati Srinivas Rao is a producer who pursues unique content for films. He started his career as a civil engineer and later became a producer. He made 18 films till now with stars like Manoj, Nithin and Nani. DS Rao also acted in several films and recently had a chat with TLN.
“I started my career as a civil engineer but my passion for cinema made me enter into films and produce 18 films. Nani’s ‘Pilla Jamindar’, Nithin’s ‘Drona’ and Manoj’s ‘Mr. Nookayya’ brought me a good name as a producer.
Big budget movies with heavy star cast are not suitable for OTT releases as they result in losses. But OTT is a boon for small films and I am also planning a web series with Renu Desai with a unique plot. Owing to our acquaintance, I asked Nithin and Nani to do a film for me but they were a bit apprehensive to work with me. I stopped asking them.
I want to do films with NTR and Allu Arjun. I love the working style of Puri Jagannadh. He shoots the film in a speedy manner and saves money for producers. I also like VV Vinayak and Teja who are my friends. He made me an actor and I played various roles in more than 50 films.
I bought Kannada rights of ‘RX100’ but sold to others. Presently I am working on a film with Suresh Productions. There is ample talent in Tollywood. There are some issues in film industry as is the case with every other industry, but they are shown in a magnifying glass.”
