On October 21st every year, the whole nation celebrates ‘Police Commemoration Day’ as a mark of respect towards police personnel who play an important role in maintaining law and order. The day is observed as a mark of respect to honour the death of ten police personnel who were slain in Ladakh’s Hot Springs area in the year 1959, following an ambush by the Chinese army. The PLA threw grenades and opened fire on a CRPF patrol party comprising of 20 personnel, in which ten were killed, seven held hostage and the remaining managed to escape.
It was in the year 1960 that it was decided to observe October 21st as the ‘Police Commemoration Day’ across all police formations and thereby honour the valour of the CRPF personnel who had sacrificed their lives in the line of fire. Around 34,844 personnel lost their lives since 1947 while serving society and providing security to the nation.
On the occasion, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday paid homage to the police personnel who were martyred in the line of duty at the National Police Memorial in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi.
A big salute from Leo News to the brave Indian Police force!
