Sculptors in TTD have made a new set of idols comprising of Lord Ram, Lakshman and Goddess Sita following the directions of AP Endowment Department officials. The individual idols of Lord Ram, Goddess Sita and Lakshman along with the base have been sculpted from Krishnashila’ rocks. It is known that the consecration of Lord Ram’s idol was initiated recently and all the arrangements are being made as per Agama Shastra. Prior to placing the idols, officials of AP Endowments Department even held special rituals. Now, the idols will be placed in the ‘Sanctum Sanctorum’ of the temple as per Hindu traditions.
On the other hand, the AP government which has planned to renovate the Temple has decided not to touch the ‘Sanctum Sanctorum’, as the external walls are still strong despite having been built many years ago. However, the temple courtyard and procession space will be rebuilt totally. Even a water tank is being planned on a war footing to fulfil the renovation requirements. Along with the temple and the water pond where devotees take a dip, the government also mulls expanding the footpath leading to the top of the hill where the temple stands.
