Reliance had founded Jio with the motto to provide free calls for all Indians. Though, the firm had provided free calls initially, as per TRAI rules the company had to charge users for calls and internet usage. However, as a new year gift, the company has announced a bumper offer for all Jio users starting January 1st, 2021.
“In September 2019, when TRAI extended the timeline for implementation of the Bill & Keep regime beyond 1st January 2020, Jio was left with no option but to start charging its customers for off-net voice calls, at a rate exactly equivalent to the applicable IUC charge. While doing so, Jio had assured its users that this charge would continue only till the time TRAI abolished IUC charges. Today, Jio has delivered on that promise and made off-net voice calls free again,” Jio said in a statement.

All domestic voice calls beginning January 1st would be free of charge to any network in India. However, for those using internet they need to recharge as per the data plans released by the company.
