The vaccination process at a centre in Chirala has gone awry. Around, 2000 people had thronged the corona vaccination centres set up at the Perala Andhra Ratna High School in Chirala. This led to a stampede at the venue. The police also were helpless unable to control the humongous crowd. People said they came at once as volunteers made phone calls. Although the government says it will distribute slips for the second dose, it is not looking at the implementation at the field level. Medical experts are concerned that the corona could infect more people as people rush in and out for a second dose at once.
With the government announcing that the second dose will be given till the end of this month, the first dose will be served at the Chirala vaccination centre. The locals are outraged that the stampede took place as the people came all at once. Still, locals demanded that volunteers distribute the slips.
