The GHMC elections are around the corner and speculations are that the number of leaders who want to contest from the Congress party in this corporation election is high. Already several requests and applications from those seeking party tickets have rocked Gandhi Bhavan in this regard. As the news fell in the ears of Telangana Congress in-charge Manickam Tagore, he devised a new strategy to limit the number of candidates. It is heard that in Tamil Nadu too a similar strategy is followed if similar situations arise.
What is this new strategy?
Now, those who seek to contest in the Greater elections from the Congress need to deposit a Rs 10,000 cheque along with their applications. Manickam Tagore, who has been tasked as the Telangana Congress in-charge, put forward his opinions during the Telangana Congress Core Committee meet with fellow leaders and decided that those contesting in general seats need to pay ₹10,000 each while those in reserved seats will have to pay ₹5,000. However, the amount deposited will not be refunded at any cost, in case the candidate wins or loses.
Is Rs 10,000 a big deal?
According to party insiders, Rs 10,000 is not a big deal for those leaders who spend lakhs for a Corporator seat. Not just Rs 10,000 even if Rs 1,00,000 needs to be deposited, they would not think twice. Hence, Congress leaders have suggested that the party unanimously hold a survey to decide the potential candidate who could be given the party ticket.
