Swami Vivekananda. No matter how much we speak, we tend to fall short of words. His advice to us given a hundred years ago still drives the Indian youth in achieving their goals.
Narendranath Datta was born on January 12th, 1863, in West Bengal and at a young age became the chief disciple of the 19th-century Indian mystic Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. Having mastered the philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga, turned an Indian Hindu monk having taken up a life of renunciation to become Swami Vivekananda. He shocked everyone by teaching about the principles of Hinduism at a tender age of 30 in the United States, England and Europe.
He impressed everyone with his speech that began with the words “Sisters and brothers of America…” at the Parliament of World Religions which was held at Chicago in 1893. His speech drew applause for almost three minutes. Having introduced Hinduism in US, England and Europe, Swami Vivekananda returned to India in 1897 and founded the Ramakrishna Math. He named the monastic order after his spiritual guru, Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa to guide the Indian youth. At the age of 39 years, in 1902, Swami Vivekananda breathed his last. For his innumerable contribution to India in the field of spirituality, the Indian Government announced commemorating his birth anniversary as National Youth Day.
He won over a million hearts with his bright and radiating personality and was adept in teaching the beautiful principles of Hinduism. Even to this day, his teachings and quotes are used in personality development classes to guide the youth in chasing their dreams and goals.

If you think Swami Vivekananda is a religious leader, then you’re mistaken. Swami Vivekananda having toured several nations at a very young age, returned to India and awakened many Indians through his speeches. It is to be noted that the ‘Skill Development’ that we discuss today, was already mentioned a century ago by Swami Vivekananda. In Ramakrishna Math, a top priority is given to impart moral values to youth rather than religious teachings. Even to this day, the publications and speeches given by Swami Vivekananda are helpful in guiding the Indian youth to achieve their goals.
