‘Hit’ is the only factor that decides the future in film industry. When it comes to directors, their first film’s fate is the deciding factor for their survival. Even though some directors succeed in the litmus test, it’s becoming hard for them to get their second projects on track. Over skepticism, non-availability of stars and budget constraints are becoming the reasons for this procrastination. Here are some of the Tollywood directors who waited a great deal to commence their second films.
‘Arjun Reddy’ is the most sensational film of the decade and both its director Sandeep Reddy Vanga and hero Vijay Devarakonda became stars overnight. Sandeep got a golden chance to remake it in Bollywood with Shahid Kapoor as ‘Kabir Singh’ which went on to become ten times more successful than the original. Even though Sandeep Reddy was flooded with many Bollywood offers, he stuck to his decision of making a Telugu film. Recently he met Ram Charan and reportedly narrated a storyline which attracted the mega power star. As Charan hasn’t committed to any other project after ‘RRR’, sources say this project will materialize soon.
‘RX100’ became an unexpected hit and sky-rocketed its director Ajay Bhupathi’s fame to the skies. Though the industry thought Ajay could convince any star for his second film, it never happened. Naga Chaitanya avoided him and Ravi Teja said a blatant ‘No’. At last he had to make do with Sharwanand for his second film ‘Mahasamudram’. Actor Siddharth is playing a pivotal role in this thriller which will go on floors soon.
‘Agent Sai Srinivas Atreya’ is a film that satiated the changing mindset of Tollywood audiences and their penchant to watch realistic films. It went on to become a cult hit and its director Swaroop RSJ was lauded by both audiences and critics alike. After waiting for a long time, Swaroop recently released the first look poster for his second film which will be based on a bounty-hunter.
Let’s wait and see whether the directors will continue their success streak or not.
