The officials of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad Zonal Unit intercepted a drug consignment and seized a massive 1,050 kilos of marijuana. The value of the contraband in the grey market is estimated to be Rs 2.62 crores, officials said.
Acting on the basis of specific intelligence, officers of the DRI stopped a goods carriage vehicle at the outskirts of Hyderabad on Friday.
“The vehicle was carrying empty plastic crates. However, a detailed examination of the cargo area revealed that several bags of cannabis/ganja were concealed behind the empty plastic crates. A total of 1050 kgs of Ganja, whose approximate value in the grey market is Rs. 2.62 crores, was found to be concealed in the goods carriage vehicle, said the officials.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the ganja was sourced from Visakhapatnam agency area, and was destined for Maharashtra.
“The contraband and the vehicle were seized and one person has been arrested under the provisions of NDPS Act, 1985. Further investigation is in progress,” the officials added.
