You will be shocked to know the real reason behind the haste decision to open schools in AP. It appears like what Raghuram Krishnam Raju said was true, that the YSRCP government is in no mood to conduct local body elections until Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar is the State Election Commissioner. It is alleged that schools were opened to increase the Covid spread. So that, if the High Court questioned why the local body elections were not taken up, the state government could blame rising corona cases as the reason.

Corona has already infected nearly a thousand teachers and 700 students with the opening of schools in AP. It spread fast when the classes began for 9 and 10 standards and as now caught up with all the classes re-opening after two weeks. Even, intermediate classes have started.
However, private educational institutions are giving priority only for online classes. On the other hand, parents are worried that starting the school without controlling corona, is jeopardising the lives of children.
Corona spread rampant in AP
Though the pandemic surge has declined nationwide. In AP, more than 3,000 cases are being registered on a daily basis. According to government figures, 80,000 corona tests are being done in a single day. Opposition parties say they may not exceed 6,000 at the regional level. There is a criticism that the authorities are preparing statistics to show that 80,000 tests are being done in order to Centre’s assistance. Already 32 buses which have been deployed for collection of corona samples have been stopped. The contract staff who worked on those buses left the job as they weren’t paid for the last six months. However, the government claims AP as an inspiration for other states when it comes to testing Corona cases.
Will the campuses close in another ten days?
Parents are not daring to send students to schools in the wake of the rapid spread of the corona. Attendance in public schools has not exceeded 50 per cent so far. Government figures show that the number of students having midday meals is less than ten per cent. However, the AP government has already announced that the attendance will not be considered for this academic year. It seems the Centre is monitoring the spread of Corona in schools. Many predict that schools would be closed in another ten days and online classes may continue.
