The phase one of the Bihar elections 2020 is currently underway and more than two-crore voters will exercise their franchise to decide the fate of 1066 candidates. The Election Commission issued all guidelines to be taken in the wake of the pandemic so that the elections are held in a safe manner. In the first phase, CM Nitish Kumar led JD(U) will contest in 25 seats, BJP in 29 seats with seven seats reserved for smaller allies, RJD in 42 seats and the Congress in 20 seats. On the other hand, Chirag Paswan led LJP will contest in 41 seats of which 25 seats are that of the JD(U).
The second and third phase of polling will be held on November 3rd and 7th respectively, while the results will be declared on the 10th of November. Polling for the seventy-one assembly constituencies began at 7 AM amidst tight security arrangements. The number of voters has been capped to 1000 from 1600 per polling booth which includes staggering of polling hours and postal ballots for octogenarians, to curb the spread of the deadly virus.
