Even before the Nagarjuna Sagar by-election schedule has been finalized, equations have changed since then. There is suspense regarding the candidates. Though all parties are in the process of finalizing the candidates they are confused. Apart from the Congress party leaders including TPCC chief, the state in-charge have confirmed that senior leader Jana Reddy will be the candidate but this has not been officially confirmed. Nagarjuna Sagar Congress leaders are talking among themselves that he may also be changed as the days go on. Jana Reddy’s latest remarks fall in such direction.
The BJP which was aggressive following the Dubbaka and GHMC results seem to have calmed down in the run-up to the Nagarjuna Sagar by-election. The BJP hopes to enter the battle with a goal to win. With this, it is taking steps carefully on the selection of the candidate. The BJP has contested in the constituency in the past but has not been able to make much of an impact. Now that the situation in the state is favourable for their party, there is a heated debate in the party over who should be made the candidate in Nagarjuna Sagar. At a time when there are doubts hovering on the candidature of Jana Reddy from the Congress, it is raising hopes for the BJP. The Saffron party is of the opinion that if Jana Reddy does not contest, there are good chances of winning the election. The party is thinking to finalise the candidate only after the announcement from Congress and TRS. BJP leaders are saying that many were ready to contest on behalf of the party and that they were going to field a winning horse.
So far, there was a talk that the Congress party was one step ahead of all other parties in Nagarjuna Sagar by-poll. The situation has come back to square one with the latest comments of Jana Reddy. There are reports that he is backtracking on the competition because of a family feud. Congress leaders in the constituency say that Jana Reddy’s son Raghuveer Reddy is trying hard to contest. Although Jana Reddy was told that the ticket had been finalized, Jana Reddy said that all should support even if his son contests the election and this has led to tension among the party’s high command. There are discussions going on in the constituency that if not Jana Reddy who is going to win from here.
