Some expectations turned into reality, while some others totally went haywire. In other words, the judgement given by the people of Dubbaka is a warning signal for the ruling government. While the Dubbaka win has boosted BJP’s morale until the next election.
BJP candidate Madhavaneni Raghunandan Rao won the Dubbaka Assembly by-election having defeated Solipeta Sujatha of the TRS by a margin of 1470 votes on Tuesday. Sympathy factor that works when a family member of the deceased candidate is given a ticket, propaganda that the government is working wonderfully combined with positive winds all over the state, the campaign against the BJP’s anti-farmer policies, none of the above seemed to have changed the tide in favour of the TRS. Ultimately, the people elected BJP’s Raghunandan Rao as the MLA of Dubbaka.
How will this benefit the TRS?
Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao, Working President of the TRS and Minister of MA&UD, Industries and IT&C of Telangana addressing a presser after the defeat in Dubbaka said that success and failure in politics are natural. Neither should success go into your head nor should failure lead to discouragement, the Minister added, conceding defeat. Thaneeru Harish Rao, the Finance Minister of Telangana also accepted the verdict given by the people of Dubbaka and took the responsibility for TRS’ loss. Earlier, Harish Rao during the campaign had pledged that the TRS would win with a majority of over 1,00,000 votes. In the end, KTR made it clear that the reasons for the defeat would be contemplated and they will move forward in future keeping people’s welfare in mind.
It should be noted that till date, the TRS has lacked such a perspective as they were overconfident following their consecutive win since the formation of Telangana in 2014. Earlier, in 2018 when the TRS went for early elections, even the candidates of that party didn’t expect such an overwhelming mandate. But by the time of parliamentary elections, the tide began collapsing.
What does this mean for the BJP?
The BJP from long has been eyeing the 17 MP constituencies and has high hopes on Telangana. On the other hand, the case is not the same for AP which has 23-seats. This win is another opportunity for them to prove that the BJP is not a party confined to Hyderabad alone and helps them assert that the TRS government is not functioning smoothly. Finally, it is a sign that the BJP is getting stronger day by day in the state.
